The NIH Office of Data Strategy recently announced the Generalist Repository Ecosystem Initiative (GREI). This new initiative seeks to supplement the subject-specific NIH data repositories available to NIH-funded researchers with 6 generalist repositories. These expanded repository options will be helpful for researchers who will be subject to the new NIH data sharing policy taking effect in January 2023. The announcement shares that these 6 generalist repositories will also work together to better coordinate and provide further training and education. (Learn more.)

The repositories participating in the GREI include:

We’re especially excited for this announcement as UW-Madison joined Dryad as a member institution this past summer! As a member, UW-Madison researchers are able to deposit data of up to 300GB per deposit into Dryad for free. On top of being part of the GREI initiative, Dryad offers a number of other benefits including journal integration with certain publishers, curation of deposited datasets, and the ability to upload software, code, and scripts which are sent directly to Zenodo. Our membership with Dryad will make it easier for NIH-funded researchers to ensure compliance with their forthcoming data sharing requirements.

You can learn more about accessing Dryad here at UW-Madison through our resources. And as always, you can also reach out to us anytime with questions!
